General terms and conditions

Registration

You can register through this website. It is not possible to register for multiple people at once. An exception to this is the individual lectures. These can be booked and paid for multiple people at the same time. By registering, you agree to the general terms and conditions. If you are unable to register via the website, please contact the secretariat at info@volksuniversiteitdenhaag.nl.

Method of payment

Payment is made via iDEAL, simultaneously with the registration on the website. If you wish to pay by another method, please contact the secretariat at info@volksuniversiteitdenhaag.nl to arrange the registration and payment. After receiving your registration and payment, we will send you a confirmation email within a few days. Your registration is only final once we have received your payment.
If you wish to receive an invoice to transfer the course fee, we will charge an administrative fee of €25.00.

Ooievaarspas
Holders of a Ooievaarspas receive a 50% discount up to a maximum of € 165 per year. This discount only applies to courses in the categories Creation and Culture with a course fee of € 330 max.

Would you like to enrol and do you have a Ooievaarspas? Please contact the secretariat (info@volksuniversiteitdenhaag.nl).

Do you have a Ooievaarspas and would you like to participate in a course where the discount does not apply? Let us know and we will see what we can do for you.

Refund of Course Fees
When you register, you commit to the entire course and are obligated to pay the full course fee. A refund of the course fee will be issued if you cancel your participation at least 14 days before the start of the course. Cancellations must be submitted by email or letter. An administrative fee of €25 will be charged for refunds.
If you miss the refund deadline, it is possible, after consultation with the secretariat, for another person to attend the course in your place.
A student who discontinues or interrupts the course is not entitled to a refund for the part of the course not attended. Exceptions are made in cases of prolonged illness, hospitalization, or death in the (immediate) family. Proof documents must be provided. In these cases, a refund of up to 50% of the remaining course fee is possible.
Measures imposed by the government and enforced by us can never be a reason to cancel your registration.

Course Continuation and Cancellation
One week before the specified start date of the course, we will review whether there are enough registrations to actually proceed with the course. If there are too few registrations, the Volksuniversiteit may cancel the course. In this case, the registered participants will be notified at least one week before the course begins, and the full course fee will be refunded. The Volksuniversiteit reserves the right to have a course taught by a different instructor than the one listed in the course program. Additionally, the location or dates may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Continuity of Lessons
If, due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., government measures such as a lockdown), the on-site courses cannot take place, we will switch to online lessons as soon as possible. Switching to online lessons due to unforeseen circumstances does not entitle you to a refund of the course fee.

Parallel Courses
If the maximum number of participants is exceeded, a waiting list will be created. Based on this list, the Volksuniversiteit may decide to schedule a second course. If this course is held at a different time, placement will be arranged in consultation with the respective student(s).

Course Start
Each course starts at the time and location specified in the confirmation email. You will not receive a separate notification about this.

Course Materials
You are responsible for purchasing the course materials unless otherwise specified for the respective course. Any material costs not included in the course fee can be paid directly to the instructor.
It is recommended to purchase books and materials only once it is certain that the course will go ahead. The course materials and an indication of their price can be found on the website for each course.
You can purchase the course materials for language courses through the Intertaal book service.

Breaks
A lesson of an hour and a half generally does not have a break, unless the instructor arranges otherwise with the group. Lessons lasting longer are interrupted halfway by a short coffee/tea break.

Change of Address
If you change your address or if your address details are incorrect, we would appreciate being informed.

Holidays
No lessons are held during holidays. The Volksuniversiteit holidays generally align with the holidays of secondary education in The Hague (see holidays & free days page).

Missed Lessons
Scheduled lessons that, for any reason, do not take place will be made up at the end of the course. Students should take into account when registering that the course duration may be extended by one or two weeks.

Evaluation
The Volksuniversiteit values receiving feedback on your experience with our courses so that we can improve, if necessary. Every student who wishes to provide feedback will have the opportunity to fill out a digital evaluation form.

General House Rules
The Volksuniversiteit assumes that students will treat their instructor and fellow students respectfully and adhere to generally accepted standards of decency.
The Volksuniversiteit reserves the right to deny access to any activity or course location if someone does not comply with the applicable house rules.
