How can I register?
You can register via this website. You will receive confirmation of your registration by e-mail as soon as possible.
How can I pay?
Payment is via Ideal, at the same time as submitting the registration form. If you want to pay in another way, please contact the secretariat at [email protected] to arrange registration and payment. For example, requesting a 2 instalment payment for courses over €350. Upon receipt of your registration and payment, we will send you a confirmation e-mail. Your registration is not final until we have received your payment.
My employer pays for the course, can I receive an invoice?
It is possible to receive an invoice so that you can claim the course fee you paid at registration from your employer. Contact the secretariat at [email protected]; you will then receive an invoice/payment slip in your name. There is no charge for this.
If you do not register via the website but via our secretariat (by e-mail or telephone) and your employer pays the invoice by transferring the amount to us, this is possible. This is also possible, we will charge a € 25.00 (incl. 21% VAT) administration fee.
What if the course of my choice is full?
When you register for a course that is fully booked, you will be notified on the website. It is possible to put you on a waiting list. If a place becomes available or we organise an extra group, we will contact you. If you have already paid and the course is full, we will refund your money.
Do I need to pay the course fee to be placed on the waiting list?
If a course is full, you can register for the waiting list via our website. During registration, you will not be directed to the payment page. Your registration for the waiting list will be processed without payment, and you will receive a confirmation. If a spot becomes available, you will receive a payment link at that time.
When do the next language courses start?
New language courses start regularly. Each lesson of the regular courses lasts one and a half hours and takes place once a week. Besides the regular courses, Volksuniversiteit also regularly offers Intensive courses and Conversation courses. Check the programme for more information.
I would like to pick up my Arabic, German, Turkish, Swedish, etc. again, but cannot estimate my level.
For most languages, the starting and final levels of the European Reference Framework are clearly indicated. If you are unsure about your language level, please send an e-mail stating your name and telephone number to [email protected]. One of our teachers will then contact you by phone shortly.
For some languages, an online entry test is available if you are in doubt about your language level. You can find more about this and the online tests on our Speaking hours & boarding tests page.
Can I ask a teacher a question directly?
Send your question to us by e-mail and we will ensure that it reaches the right teacher.
We do not give teachers' phone numbers to third parties.
When will the new programme come online?
In June, the autumn courses starting in the September-December period will appear on the website.
In November, the Winter and Spring programme will appear, with courses starting from January-June.
However, this is only a guideline, we programme throughout the year. Keep a regular eye on our website for updates, subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and soon on Instagram.
The course of my choice has already started, can I still join?
For 12-week language courses, you may miss two lessons and can still join from the third lesson.
For most other courses, you cannot enrol after the course has started.
There is no reduction in the course fee because of missed lessons.
I registered for the wrong course via the website. How can I change it?
Please inform the secretariat at [email protected]. This way you can let them know what went wrong and the secretarial staff can then change it for you.
Do I get a certificate?
When you have successfully completed a course with sufficient attendance (at least 80%), you can request a certificate from your teacher.
For many language courses, we follow the guidelines of the European Framework of Reference (ERK). This describes your progress in speaking, reading, listening and writing at different levels.
The courses state which level you have reached at the end of your course according to this ECFR. For more information on the ECC, click here.
Does the course price of a language course include books?
No, you have to buy the books required for the course yourself through a bookshop. All books are listed with the relevant course. You can order the books online via book service intertaal.nl and Boekhandel Douwes (Herengracht 60) can order the books for our course participants.
Are there any discount schemes?
Holders of a Ooievaarspas receive a 50% discount up to a maximum of € 165 per year. This discount only applies to courses in the categories Creation and Culture with a course fee of € 330 max.
